Re-Imagining Cleveland: Ideas to Action Resource BookFebruary 2011 By Neighborhood Progress Inc./Cleveland Land Lab at Cleveland Urban Design Collaborative - Kent State University Nearly three years ago after an eye-opening study on land abandonment in the city of Cleveland, planners, residents, and other engaged community stakeholders crafted a comprehensive plan for a more efficient city. The plan, which was adopted by the Cleveland City Council in 2008, would shape the transformation of some of the 3,300 acres of vacant land into urban gardens, alternative energy fields, or other economically-strengthening and environmentally-friendly uses.
Neighborhood Progress, Inc. and the Cleveland Urban Design Collaborative at Kent State University have just released the latest addition to their Re-Imagining series that explores land reuse for vacant sites. Re-Imagining Cleveland: Ideas to Action Resource Book provides varied and informative examples of success from some of the 56 community-based grants awarded last year to explore what could be done in Cleveland's neighborhoods. The book is a great guide for communities hoping to adopt similar strategies.
