New York Governor Andrew Cuomo signed historic land bank legislation today, allowing municipalities to take control of problem properties and then redevelop or dispose of them in a manner consistent with the public interest. The Center for Community Progress worked closely with legislators to advance the initiative, which puts this proven strategic tool in the hands of cities and counties – a particular boon in New York State communities where the number of vacant properties outpaces the private market’s ability to deal with them.
