New Orleans Vacant Properties Initiative

The New Orleans Vacant Properties Initiative (NOVPI) is dedicated to aiding New Orleans public, private, and nonprofit institutions in their efforts to strengthen the city and its neighborhoods by returning vacant, deteriorated, and abandoned properties to commerce.

Community Progress is working with the city of New Orleans to:

  • Support the enhancement and implementation of long-term code enforcement strategies;
  • Facilitate effective use of existing recovery programs and the development of new programs;
  • Enhance transparency and consistency of public policies and programs;
  • Facilitate real estate development.

Community Progress and its NOVPI Director Nicole Heyman played a key role in helping formulate Mayor Mitch Landrieu’s comprehensive blight eradication strategy which aims at revitalizing 10,000 blighted properties over the next three years and spurring economic growth.
