Communications and Outreach Fellow Position
The Center for Community Progress (Community Progress) is a national non-profit, capacity building, policy and advocacy organization that helps communities prevent and reuse vacant, abandoned, and underutilized properties. We have offices in Flint, Michigan, Washington, DC, and New Orleans. The DC office is located near Farragut North and Farragut West. Community Progress’ DC office is looking for a dependable, hard working, and dedicated individual for a full-time, six- to 12-month Communications and Outreach Fellow position.
Goal of Position The Communications and Outreach Fellow contributes to all aspects of Community Progress’ communications infrastructure. Working with the Advocacy and Outreach, and Communications teams the Fellow will ensure that the organization develops educational content and that our messages reach critical stakeholders.
Further, the Communications and Outreach Fellow will:
- Research and draft content for the website, blog, Facebook, and Twitter.
- Contribute to ideas and content for a bi-monthly newsletter.
- Assist with social media strategy including blogs, Facebook, and Twitter.
- Maintain website and social media networks.
- Assist in developing and implementing plans to grow Community Progress’s mailing list.
- Proof and copy edit materials.
- Develop a photo archive.
- Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related tasks as needed.
Qualifications
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree
- Educational background or work experience in urban planning, housing, economic development, policy, community development, or a related field.
- Highly computer literate with solid experience in web research, social networking, Microsoft Word, Powerpoint, and Excel, and database management. Experience in web publishing tools is preferred.
- Excellent research, writing, and communications skills.
- Excellent copy-editing and proofreading skills.
- Ability to prioritize assigned duties and prioritize and organize schedules and activities.
- Critical thinking/problem solving ability to take on office projects.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, adapt to changing directions, and work independently.
The individual is expected to:
- Be a self-starter and self-directed with a lot of initiative.
- Be detail-oriented and work well under pressure and tight deadlines.
- Have a positive attitude.
- Have an interest in, and commitment to, social justice issues.
Compensation Fellows receive a stipend of $1,500 per month. Fellows also receive six days of paid sick or vacation leave per six-month tenure. Fellows have paid leave on all Community Progress observed holidays.
