Director of Communications and Development
Chelsea Allinger serves as Director of Communications and Development for the Center for Community Progress, where she oversees the planning and implementation of all aspects of the organization’s communications work.
Prior to joining Community Progress, Chelsea worked in development and communications at Cypress Hills Local Development Corporation, a community development corporation in northeast Brooklyn. At Cypress Hills, she formalized and grew the organization’s communications infrastructure, coordinated record-breaking fundraising events and campaigns, and raised millions of dollars in foundation, corporate, and government grants.
Chelsea previously worked at Smart Growth America on the Governors’ Institute on Community Design. In that role, she helped develop and execute policy workshops for governors, cabinet members, and other state officials on policies related to smart growth, urban development, and the federal Sustainable Communities Partnership. She also served the City of Rochester, New York's Department of Recreation and Youth Services through the pilot Rochester Youth Year Fellowship (an AmeriCorps VISTA program). Chelsea was also an Urban Fellow through Leadership Rochester.
Chelsea received a Master of Arts in Public Policy with a focus in Philosophy and Social Policy from The George Washington University, where her coursework focused on urban policy and urban sustainability. She also holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Philosophy from the University of Rochester. Chelsea is presently based in Washington, D.C., but is proud to have been born and raised in Rochester, New York, where the snow is only sometimes as bad as you think it is.
